Meet Carolyn

I received my Master's Degree in Counseling from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY.  After completing an internship studying family systems therapy at Empact Suicide Prevention Center, I joined my husband, Dr. Donald Boles' internal medicine practice and together we spent 20+ years treating patients in Sun Lakes, AZ.  I believe that the coordinated efforts to work with both the mind and body gave our patients optimal understanding and treatment.  When my husband moved on to work with veterans, I joined the staff of Metro Neuro Behavioral Institute in Chandler.  We have psychiatric care provided by psychiatrists and certified nurse practitioners specializing in mental health.  Together with psychiatry, our counseling department provides for a comprehensive approach for treatment.

Therapeutic Philosophy

I believe most people are influenced by rewards and the avoidance of punishment.  Most behavior is initiated for some type of positive reinforcement, although it is not always apparent what it is.  If you can understand what the reward that you are getting is, then you can learn what your motivation is  and even how to change your behavior.  Though at first glance these rewards are sometimes elusive, through therapy we can discover together just what these are for you.

The mind body connection is an integral part of mental and physical health.  The use of body therapies such as somatic experiencing are important interventions used to disrupt stuck patterns of thoughts and behaviors.
